When it comes to dressing seasonally, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut. We layer up for winter, then just remove a few of those layers come spring. The fun, however, happens when we decide to switch things up — to try new trends and styles for each new season, effectively brightening our wardrobes with the rising temps and the longer days.
There’s NO one who masters this concept better than our friend Katie Sturino of The 12ish Style. Katie plays with colors, patterns, and textures to create playful, wearable ensembles — for women of every shape and size. Here, Katie shows us how she’ll be dressing this spring — and how we can copy the looks for ourselves.
#1. PJ Perfection
Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking, I know, I know, but they’re a classic for good reason! I’ve been pro-pajama dressing from the start and this set from Eloquii, up to a size 24, does not disappoint. A silky feel and in my favorite color palette? Sold! It is spring after all, so pile on all the colorful accessories like statement sunnies, loud earrings, and a satin turban to spice things up.
#2. An Updated 90s Throwback
I love a good bodysuit, and this one by TUXE is ideal for spring — not too heavy, but keeps you warm on those cooler spring days. Also, have I mentioned my new trend obsession?! This Gucci belt bag has sent all of my other handbags on vacation. Hands-free and big enough for all the essentials (phone, key, wallet, and Glossier Balm Dotcom), it really is the perfect bag.
#3. Pattern Mixing (Without the Intimidation)
There’s something so effortlessly chic about a striped top with jeans. To elevate this look from classic to contemporary, I mixed prints with these leopard flats and my statement Pendleton coat that I bought in Capri, Italy.
#4. Colorful Athleisure
I’m a firm believer that if your workout clothes are fun, your workouts will be *more* fun too. I practically live in my Outdoor Voices leggings and these yellow ones have my heart. Add on a cropped hoodie and some classic kicks and you’re athleisure ready.
#5. Patriotic Chic
Red, white, and blue is my favorite color palette, and I knew this iconic Ralph Lauren teddy bear sweater would be perfect for my body all year round. Paired with white jeans, you couldn’t look more Americana if you tried! To funk it up, I added statement leopard boots (pro tip — I’m a size 12 shoe, so these are borrowed from the boys) and a camel coat to round it off.
