Spring is the perfect time for a quick escape, as the weather (finally!) starts to warm up but sweltering summer heat is still a few months away. We’ve rounded up our favorite destinations for a spring getaway this year to help you beat the tourist crowds, take advantage of inexpensive flights, and skip the rainy season.

1. Colombia

Colombia is often overlooked as a South American destination, but in the years since the civil war ended, Colombia tourism has steadily increased into the region. The country’s capital city Bogotá is a beautiful metropolitan hub of culture and dining options. If you’d rather have ocean views, head to the coastal city of Cartagena for colorful homes on sandy beaches.

2. Pacific Coast Highway

The California coast is one of the most scenic drives in the United States, and after being devastated by mudslides last fall, some of the most picturesque sections of Route 1 are now back open. Whether you start in San Francisco and head south to SoCal, or start in Los Angeles and head north to Napa Valley, the winding roads through Big Sur are a can’t-miss.

3. Ireland

Low-cost European airlines like Norwegian have rapidly expanded their footprint in the United States this year. With the expansion, the costs of direct flights to Dublin have significantly dropped. Spring in Ireland encompasses some of the driest months of the year, so take advantage of a $300 round trip flight to see the sun shine on the Irish coast.

4. The Florida Keys

After a harsh hurricane season last year, the Florida Keys are open for business. As the tourists start to trickle back, head down to the islands to take advantage of better hotel rates, hard-to-get dinner reservations, and open beaches. Fly into Miami and road trip down the coast to see each quiet inlet, pink sand beach, and tiki bar that the Keys have to offer.

5. Vancouver, BC

Vancouver is a quick three-hour drive north from Seattle, Washington and offers some of the most amazing views of the Pacific coast. As more retailers are expanding their footprint in Canada, downtown Vancouver has become a great shopping destination. The city offers the perfect mix of sprawling landscapes for hiking and a metropolitan downtown area.

6. New Orleans, Louisiana

The Big Easy celebrates its 300th birthday this spring. The city has events planned throughout the year to commemorate the tricentennial and celebrate the rich history of New Orleans. Before booking your ticket, check out the tricentennial’s event page to plan your visit.

7. Grenada

Grenada is one of the most southern islands of the Caribbean and was spared the brunt of last year’s hurricanes. In the past twelve months, two new luxury hotel properties started development on the island, marking the first hotel chain foray into Grenada. Be one of the first guests to experience the minimalist, modern design of Silversands when it opens this spring.

8. Santa Fe, New Mexico

The culture and history of Santa Fe is colorful and unique. With a vibrant art scene and a southwestern aesthetic that is unique from the oft-frequented coastal cities, Santa Fe is a must-visit. There are dozens of museums, restaurants, and boutiques to explore. Visit before July to enjoy minimal rain and comfortable temperatures in the 60s.

9. Perth, Australia

Quantas airlines launched the first direct flight route between London and Perth this year with a goal to make the Australian city more accessible to travelers. Located on the western coast of the country, Perth is a city with beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean and access to miles of Australian bush land. (Plus if you have a few extra vacation days, Bali is a quick three-hour flight away!).

10. Denver, Colorado

The 2018 concert season at Red Rock Amphitheater kicks off in April and is the perfect excuse to plan a long weekend in Denver. Spend your days hiking the nearby mountains or on one of the dozens of outdoor brewery patios in the city before driving the quick 30 minutes out to Red Rocks to experience a concert in one of the country’s most famous venues.
